Words Getting Out
Knotty Totty’s Wood Flowers are the premier wood flower florist. We are proud to have the spotlight on our designs.
Since Kelly went full-time with Knotty Totty’s Designs in 2021, she sells her wood and flowers online and to a couple of stores locally, and she also ships throughout the country. Kelly either dyes, paints, or airbrushes each flower and customizes it to any color. She says the wooden arrangements last forever — and look real.
“To the point where people come up and they’re not sure if they’re fresh flowers or fake flowers,” said Totman.
From street corn to cozy blankets, vendors sold wares to meet a variety of tastes at the Sip and Stroll Harvest event on Sunday, Sept. 17. According to event organizer Lorna Brunelle, despite having to move the event to Sunday due to wind gusts from Hurricane Lee, the Sip and Stroll garnered the attention of approximately 3,000 guests. “There’s a trickle effect,” said Brunelle. Vintage Bazaar New England 2023 will be the weekend of June 24-25 at Kimball Farm in Haverhill, MA. Last year there were 140 vendors set up on the 300-acre Kimball Farm selling everything from vintage goods, handmade products, & houseplants…and everything in between!
Her work has accompanied brides down the aisle, welcomed new babies, celebrated milestones and started love stories, but Kelly Totman says it’s not just in the moment that her floral designs bring joy to her customers − it’s all the moments after.
“Anything you do with real flowers I can do and more − because they last,” she said. “The sky is the limit.”
Totman, a Quincy native, owns a floral studio in Middleboro called Knotty Totty’s Designs, but, unlike the average florist, her work lasts a lifetime. Instead of fresh blooms, Totman uses flowers made from a thin wood and either hand paints or airbrushes them to look just like the real thing. The difference is unnoticeable in photos and nearly imperceptible in person, and Totman said the alternative to fresh flowers is gaining in popularity.
